Holy Flux Capacitor !!

Archives for May 2011

May 29, 2011 by Kevin Morris

I was a bit apprehensive arriving to photograph the wedding of Hazel & Kieran last Saturday – 28th May. For some reason, Hazel had a fear of getting her photo taken and had basically told me that she really didn’t want any pics taken of her !! I don’t know why she was so nervous as she looked fab, turning up in a Delorean which was in keeping with the eighties theme of the wedding. The tables were all dressed with retro sweets & pin badges, they even managed to find those red plastic fish that curl up and tell you your fortune. The table plan was done up in an A-Team style, there was a frame at the bottom of the stairs & props for polaroid shots of the (willing) guests in various poses, and it was all set off by the lads and their simple dress code – wear your converse. The simple yet touching ceremony was held in a marquee on the grounds of Malahide Rugby Club with the reception being held in the clubhouse, and, the day went so well, with such a relaxed atmosphere (helped by the 99’s on demand) that Hazel did let me take a few shots of herself & Kieran and I think you will agree that they look great together (check out the shoes !). So, if you have a problem (such as being camera shy), if no-one else can help and if you can find me, maybe you can hire me and watch as my plan comes together !

I am really looking forward to processing the images from this unique wedding, but, for the time being, I have uploaded a few draft shots below. Just click on any of them for a (slightly) larger version. Hope you enjoy.

It was a bit of a mixed bag for me in the first quarter of the 2011 IPPA awards. Some results I was a bit disappointed with, for others I was pleasantly surprised. These competitions are a good gauge as to how & if you are developing as a photographer. It also is a showcase for the very high standards of photographers throughout the IPPA in all manner of photography. This time I entered 11 images, and, I cant really complain as I was awarded 4 gold and 7 silver awards. Considering the fact that last year (my first in IPPA competition) I achieved 4 golds in total I should be delighted, but, in a perverse kind of way, the fact that I was a bit disappointed is a good sign. Good is not good enough anymore.

I have uploaded the images below.

It was a touch of deja vu when I entered the bridal suite in Kinnity Castle yesterday, 07th May. Nearly three months ago I photographed Siobhans wedding, and now we all met up again for her sister, Ciaras wedding. They were well used to my relaxed approach and I knew that I couldn’t go wrong with the three stunning daughters. The staff at Kinnity were extremely attentive and helpful, plyed me full of delicious coffee when I arrived so they knew how to get on my good side. The ceremony was in the quaint church in Kinnity village only minutes drive from the hotel which is always a plus. My only problem with the day was, yet again, the weather (grumpy old man syndrome kicking in !!). Blustery showers and even more blustery winds had guests battling with their hairdos, and others battling to protect their modesty !! We managed to get a few outdoor shots in the courtyard, but luckily with Kinnity there are plenty of photographic opportunities indoors. I have attached a few proof pics from the day below. Hope you like them, and, if you know either Ciara or Joe feel free to leave a comment as they will be checking in while on honeymoon.

The weather Gods did not smile on Co. Wexford yesterday for the wedding of Sinead & Cillian at Seafield. All we managed at the beach was a quick glance – stormy seas, gusting winds & heavy rain forced us to hasten our retreat back to the hotel !! However – the bad weather couldn’t dampen the great spirits & good humour of everyone in attendance, and the sweet trolly full of retro confectionary ensured that all guests, young & old, were kept suitably hyper ! From the tea & sambos for guests before the ceremony, and the bride being full ready with an hour & twenty minutes to go, I had another couple of  “firsts” to chalk up. This wedding was an absolute pleasure to shoot, and I’d say the celebrations went on long into the night. I have uploaded a few pics below, hope you enjoy them.
