Aoife & Danny – Kippure Estate

Real Weddings

August 15, 2014 by Kevin Morris

Although a short blog on Aoife & Dannys wedding is in the offing, I thought I would share with you one image from their day. Taken looking out over Lough Tay, on the road to Kippure Estate, just an hour or so before Bertha (the storm :)) hit. Although I operate primarily in the background on the day, when presented with an opportunity to create such a stunning image you grab it with both hands !!

It’s always nice when you know at least some of the main wedding party. So was the case when photographing Louise & James wedding as I had previously shot a wedding for Louises brother Shane, who married Sinead, who also acted as Louises bridesmaid, might sound a bit confusing, but trust me, I felt at home !!! St Feichins church in Fore seems to be a magnet for rain, as, yet again it lashed out of the heavens meaning a visit to the wonderful ruins of Fore Abbey was out of the question. On arrival at Clonabreany the sky was clear and the sun was shining so we managed to get a few outdoor pics.

It’s amazing how much work goes into the preparation of the reception room. The bride & groom, the venue and perhaps a wedding planner / co-ordinator work together to ensure that all aspects of the venue convey the ambience and the general “look” of the wedding. The touches unique to each couple, the colour scheme, the favours, the table dressings all combine to make each wedding unique. As a photographer being hired to document the day, I always take a little time to capture these details, they might never make it into an album, but they are an intrinsic part of the day.

On each wedding day, I am all about giving the bride and groom, their guests and families, plenty of room to enjoy themselves rather than spending hours and hours on posing for photos. This would be what the vast majority of couples prefer, but, having said that, if I see a shot, I will have no problems asking the couple to take a little time out to capture it.

The shot below is from a recent wedding, I had seen the possibility during the ceremony, and although the B&G didn’t want much in the way of “posed” images, they were happy to trust me that it would be worth it. We literally took 2 minutes to capture this image, 2 minutes for something which will hopefully last a lifetime.

Whereas I love the documentary images, the unposed moments, the laughs etc. I also am a firm believer in taking the time on the day to capture a few “posed” photos. They don’t have to be the traditional shots, they don’t have to be stuffy & rigid, but they can deliver on the wow factor and, as the shot below proves, done & dusted in a matter of minutes.

8 years into this full time photography lark and I am still learning ! It might sound like a cliché, but every wedding IS different and each couple have their own ideas & personalities which hopefully come across in my images. With each wedding comes new challenges, sometime new venues, and even new friendships but one thing that hasn’t really changed is my photographic style. Mainly documentary, but with a few “informal” posed shots…and yes….I still do the family shots !
Watch out shortly for some new album selections, as well as regular updates & sneak peaks throughout the year. 2014 is nearly fully booked out with just a few select dates available in November & December.
See attached slideshow for a selection of images from 2013 (mainly !) – if you like my style feel free to give me a shout, or, if you know someone tying the knot who might be interested feel free to share. Hope you enjoy the show (watch in HD for best results & big thanks to the multi talented and all round good egg Corin Bishop for the soundtrack !).

Took a long drive up to Kilronan Castle to photograph the wedding of Ciara & David. Stunning venue, lovely couple and welcoming families & guests – throw in a couple of slightly mad bridesmaids, and Irelands victory in Paris to clinch the 6 nations and you had the recipe for a fabulous day all round. Hopefully, the small selection of images does the day justice.
