Capture the moment ??

artistic wedding photography

September 10, 2018 by Kevin Morris

Is the phrase “capture the moment” overused in photography circles ?? Probably, but it can sum up an image, taken in a split second, that won’t be repeated again. It is literally, capturing that moment and freezing it forever, a sneaky kiss on a wedding day, the tears of joy on a parents face, the innocence (or not !!) of children, or just a look, a smile, unposed, unsolicited by the photographer. When we are photographing weddings we keep the posing to a minimum as much as possible and look out for these moments, hoping to catch them – it’s not always possible, but sometimes everything just falls into place. Between the wedding meal and the start of the dancing Alan went for a walk with his daughter, away from the crowds,  just a bit of fresh air for the two of them. Luckily I was outside as well, cooling off after a long warm day and was delighted to “capture this moment”.

I had the pleasure of shooting Louise & Patricks big day down in Limerick during May – and what a day it was !! The weather was great, the hotel looked stunning and the gardens were immaculate, but most of all such a lovely couple. Louise, Patrick and their families and friends were every photographers dream, relaxed, welcoming, a good bit of craic and so many laughs – the big belly laughs as well !!. Even though it was a long day it flew, from start to finish it was such a pleasure and I felt more like a guest than the photographer. Their ideas on photography were totally in line with mine, relaxed and unforced and we even got to fit in a quick walk down to the banks of the Shannon for some sunset shots. I was delighted when I heard back from Louise & Patrick after they received their photos which finished off everything nicely.

“Wow, what can I say. Just received our photos and they are amazing. Over the moon Kevin we cannot thank you enough you really did a top notch job. Beyond delighted with them. Thank you so so much x. Louise & Patrick”

Being a wedding photographer, you can win all the awards there are, get fancy spreads in magazines etc. but there is nothing as rewarding as getting good feedback from couples who love their photos. I was very pleasantly surprised this morning to receive a small package in the post, along with a lovely note, they included a family pack of Tim Tams – some of which I had sampled at their wedding. Such a thoughtful (though not for my waistline !!) gift. Their blog has already been published on the page and is worth checking out if you haven’t seen it yet – https://kevinmorris.ie/blog/?p=4668

Dear Kevin,

thank you so much for capturing our special day. Every single photo is amazing and each time we look at them we are transported right back to the 14th July reliving every memory. Hope you enjoy the Tim Tams !! 🙂

Hi Kevin

Got the photos last week.
Thanks a mil,  they are fabulous…..your attention to detail was superb and we couldn’t be happier with them
Many thanks
Fiona & Ciaran

It’s always a great day shooting at Palmerstown House Estate, even better when you have a totally relaxed couple, and the icing on the cake is when they come back with some lovely feedback 🙂

Have a look at a few images from the day & enjoy.

How lucky am I ?? Over the last few weeks I got to visit some stunning venues, photograph amazing weddings and more importantly, meet some wonderful loved up couples who made me feel so welcome & part of the day. We have also been blessed with some fab weather, despite my hate for strong sunshine !!! Lots of drinks on the lawn and epic photos. Throughout every day I do my very best to keep everything moving along, capturing photos with the minimum of fuss & stress, nabbing those little moments as well as the wow factor shots and making the photography aspect of the day as seamless and relaxed as possible.

Key dates are starting to fill up in 2019 and enquiries are already coming in for 2020 but on the flip side I still have some limited availability for late 2018.

Some recent feedback (always nice to get before they even see the photos !) “Absolutely amazing for my sister’s wedding, Kevin couldn’t have been more helpful fun and fantastic, he captured every special moment of the day! Cannot recommend enough thank you for everything!!!” – Megan Ryan  “Hi Kevin,Thanks so much for everything on Saturday! You helped everything run smoothly and got us all the time we wanted with our guests at the drinks reception. Thanks again for all your hard work and we look forward to our photo dispatch date.” Amy & Eoin

Why not contact us today to see if your date is still free and, in the meantime see attached for a few quick photos from this years recent weddings. I am hoping to give these the full blog treatment once the couples have received their final images.

Look forward to hearing from you 🙂

I pride myself on delivering relaxed and informal photography on your wedding day without any compromise on the final quality of the image, but, if a chance comes along for a shot, or I see something that I think would look fab I’m all over it. Luckily my planning in the run up to each wedding makes allowances for such circumstances. To illustrate the point I will explain the backstory behind the photo below as well as explain how we got there.

I had shot quite a few weddings in Seafield before and, when there were to be beach shots, we had gone down to the “public” beach at Ballymoney. This time was a little different however as Shauna & Davy had actually gotten engaged on the beach accessed through Seafield and their one “must have” shot was on this part of the strand so I wanted to make sure we got a standout shot to last a lifetime, but I also promised them we would be back at their guests by 4:15. Luckily a lot of things came together on the day. Firstly the main event manager at Seafield had volunteered to drive us there in a golf buggy, then Shaunas bridesmaid Orla hopped onto the back of the buggy to make sure all the bits & pieces were in place. Shauna helped big time by bringing along a pair of blinged up runners and of course we had a stunning day in terms of the weather. As soon as we arrived at the beach I saw the shot I wanted, but the spot was covered with kids enjoying the sun so we took a few other quick photos, once the little ones had moved on, Shauna scampered up the hill thanks to the runners and whereas a sunny day is often a pain for a photographer, the solid blue sky provided a stunning backdrop.

Within a minute I knew I had the shot I wanted, and with a couple of quick stops on the way back to the hotel it was 4:14 as we arrived at reception. Main job done, no stress, no fuss and everyone was so relaxed heading into the drinks reception all thanks to a little planning and a little help from lady luck !!
