One of the fun parts of my regular backups & archives is revisiting of weddings I have shot in the past. It is interesting to see how, or if my style changes over the years. I found with my recent archive that my style of relaxed and stress free photography has been present in my weddings for most of my years doing this gig full time (and I love an aul walking shot !!)

My first few weddings were on medium format film cameras, 12 shots per roll of film so my camera bag was full of film and not full of gear ! The advent of high quality digital cameras made such a difference though in how I shoot weddings. They gave me the freedom of travelling light, (medium format cameras were big beasts !) being able to capture a lot more images without having to worry about changing film, and the ability to develop my own images right on the computer screen – a real game changer.

However, using film cameras stood me in good stead, each camera click was a cost so I had to know my composition and posing down to the smallest of details. This background now enables me to be able to mix my love of candid and documentary shots along with the odd more traditional pose ensuring that I deliver a well balanced selection of images detailing the whole day as it unfolds.

We are known for our relaxed and unobtrusive style of photography without any compromise on quality. I was delighted when Eileen & Tim got in contact with me. Not only did they sound like a great couple, their plans for the day matched up with my style of photography and they also were having their reception in one of my favourite venues, the Killashee House Hotel in Naas so it was a win win win !!! The mornings preps were in the stunning surroundings of the Powerscourt Hotel, the ceremony in the lovely church at Stepaside and then on to Naas for the reception in Killashee. There was such an international flavour to the day, Tim being from Las Vegas, Eileen from Dublin, both living in New York and guests from around the world. The weather behaved, we got some great photos, explored the grounds and still Tim & Eileen had plenty of time to mingle with their guests before the meal started. Before we knew it we were back outside for some evening shots with glorious light and then the party rocked on till the small hours. A great day and a privilege to be part of it šŸ™‚

I went out west again to photograph the wedding of Helen & David – started in Kiltimagh and ended up in the Westport Woods. A long but thoroughly enjoyable day with warm welcomes and an easygoing couple, what more could you want ?

I was so looking forward to Ruth & Craigs wedding. I had met Ruth a number of times over the years at various functions and was delighted when she asked me to photograph their wedding. It all fell so nicely into place with Ruths preps taking place in the newly refurbished Shoreline Hotel, just 5 mins from my house. I was to meet Criag in Darver Castle where the ceremony & reception were being held – one of my favourite venues in the country. The weather played ball, everyone was in great form and the party kicked off even before the meal was served with Tropical Storm leading a huge sing song. I have so many photos I love from the day, the selection below is just a small sample which hopefully gets across the atmosphere of the day.
