2013 Wedding Story

classical wedding photography

March 31, 2014 by Kevin Morris

8 years into this full time photography lark and I am still learning ! It might sound like a cliché, but every wedding IS different and each couple have their own ideas & personalities which hopefully come across in my images. With each wedding comes new challenges, sometime new venues, and even new friendships but one thing that hasn’t really changed is my photographic style. Mainly documentary, but with a few “informal” posed shots…and yes….I still do the family shots !
Watch out shortly for some new album selections, as well as regular updates & sneak peaks throughout the year. 2014 is nearly fully booked out with just a few select dates available in November & December.
See attached slideshow for a selection of images from 2013 (mainly !) – if you like my style feel free to give me a shout, or, if you know someone tying the knot who might be interested feel free to share. Hope you enjoy the show (watch in HD for best results & big thanks to the multi talented and all round good egg Corin Bishop for the soundtrack !).

Took a long drive up to Kilronan Castle to photograph the wedding of Ciara & David. Stunning venue, lovely couple and welcoming families & guests – throw in a couple of slightly mad bridesmaids, and Irelands victory in Paris to clinch the 6 nations and you had the recipe for a fabulous day all round. Hopefully, the small selection of images does the day justice.

One of the regular questions I get asked is if I take the “family” shots.  Yes, I love documentary photography, and no, I’m not a big fan of overly posed images…….but I’m a big fan of balance. So, while I take some shots of the fun during the preparations, I don’t forget the shoes & the dress, and whereas I prefer to direct rather than pose couples, I still try to get some “timeless” bride and groom images, and yes, I do get the all important “family” shots, but I don’t drag out the whole affair till everyone has a pain in their face ! As I said, it’s all about balance, and delivering a selection of images to each couple which represents an accurate reflection of their big day both posed & unposed.

Check out the attached slideshow with a selection of images, some documentary and some (slightly) posed.

I was really looking for to Jenny & Ossians wedding as I had never shot in the stunning Moyvalley Hotel before. Unfortunately the weather misbehaved, but, to make matters worse, Jenny told me when I arrived that she had slipped 2 discs in her back the day before !! I needn’t have worried however, as neither the bad weather, nor the slipped discs could put a dampener on a wonderful day. From the intimate ceremony, the stunning location (indoor & out) and the general feel good atmosphere on the day it flew by in a blink of an eye with everyone having a fabulous time. Hopefully the few shots below can give you an idea of the day. Just click on the “play” icon on the bottom right to start the slideshow.

Saturday 11th May kept me quite local, with both the bride & groom getting ready in Swords (5 mins from each other), the ceremony in Balheary Church (part of the Donabate parish) and the reception being held in the wonderful Dunboyne Castle Hotel. Despite the lads having major difficulties with the buttonholes, the day went without any hitches….apart from one major one !! On the way to the hotel we drove through some torrential rain, but, when we arrived, the clouds parted and we had nearly 30 mins of sunshine to get a few bridal party shots done. With everyone having such a good time and a general relaxed & enjoyable feeling to the day, before we knew it the hotel were calling for the meal so we managed to get a few last shots in the old house of the hotel. Despite “working” all day I had a really great day, lovely couple & very welcoming families, I met family members from previous weddings I shot and the staff at Dunboyne outdid themselves (again !) – I am really looking forward to the processing of the images, but, in the meantime, here are a few rough edits below which hopefully will give you an idea of the day.

Just click on the play icon at the bottom right and the slideshow should start. Feel free to leave a comment for Yvonne & David as they will be checking in from time to time.

Saturday 20th April kept me in Fingal, even though it was Cavan marrying Galway. Fiona & Damien had their ceremony in the Church of the Assumption in Howth and followed up with their reception in the Howth Yacht Club. Despite the appearance, the sunny day was actually baltic !! especially when we tried to get a few shots on the east pier. Fiona caused quite a stir however when not one, but two groups of passing people asked for a photo with her !! A great day was had by all and the staff in the yacht club were ever so welcoming, accommodating & helpful. As I left the dance floor was full and the room was hopping !!
