2012 – Anatomy of a Wedding

documentary wedding photography

January 17, 2013 by Kevin Morris

During 2012 I was lucky enough to visit some stunning new venues around the country, revisit familiar venues and was privileged to be a part of, and document, the wedding day of fantastic couples. I am looking forward to more of the same throughout 2013 and hopefully will keep everyone up to date via facebook etc.  See attached gallery for a selection of images from 2012 which, in my opinion, showcase my style of work which is mainly informal & documentary, while still capturing some more classical style (without being over-fussy). This is not a “best –of” nor is it a selection of my favourite images, just a collection of images which take you through from preparations to entrance for the meal. Hope you enjoy.

Where to start with Feena & Claudes wedding ?? Quite a few firsts for me !!

I called over to meet Feena in the fab La Stampa Hotel for a few shots. The wedding ceremony was due to start at 4pm in University Church on Stephens Green, so, her hubby-to-be Claude-Alain turned up @ 1:30 for a few shots & a quick stroll towards Grafton Street, then off to the Iveagh Gardens for some bridal party shots & family shots….so all photos were done & dusted before the marriage ceremony !!! As you might guess from his name, Claude-Alain is not originally from these shores, he is in fact from Switzerland,a country quite close to me having spent quite a bit of time working in Zurich. A large contingent from the Gruyere district in Switzerland turned up in the national costumes making it a very colourful day. After the ceremony it was through Stephens Green to get the two buses back to the Thomas Prior Hall in Ballsbridge for the ceremony. In typical Irish (and very non-Swiss) tradition the buses were late but great fun was had on the trip nonetheless. I have a few shots from the day below so feel free to have a look, just click on the play button at the bottom right corner, and, if you happen to know either Feena or Claude-Alain feel free to leave a comment (English or Swiss/French !!).

In the wedding photography business it’s very rare to get a last minute booking, usually bookings are 12-18 months in advance, so, I was surprised when I got an enquiry from Aishling & Bar with only 2 weeks to go to their wedding !! When we met for a chat Aishling told me she might be a bit giddy on the day and she was true to her word. She spent the whole morning and all the ceremony laughing & giggling, followed by an hours hugging up to the reception meal !!!

The venue was the stunning Leixlip Manor and the weather was just about perfect for photos and with everyone enjoying themselves on the patio there was a great buzz throughout the whole day.

I have uploaded a small selection of photos below as a “sneak peak” so feel  free to have a look. Just click on the play button on the bottom right, and, if you happen to know Aishling & Bar feel free to leave a comment for them as they will be checking in from time to time.

Saturday 10th December saw me heading off to the small village of Kilkerrin, Co. Galway for the wedding of Sarah & Oliver. The priest mentioned in his ceremony that they did things a little different around there and he was right. When driving from Sarahs house to the church the roadside had lots of posters, balloons wishing them luck (think Tour de France !) I was also perplexed at how neat & tidy the litter was. Outside every house on the road were little stacks of rubbish. I didn’t know at the time that when Sarah left her house these were all set alight by their neighbours for good luck. We also had some fun when a wet sheepdog joined the greeting line in the church !! A more relaxed & unfussed couple you could not meet, with a bit of rain & failing light they hit the pub instead of heading off for photos, but despite the long drive to the Lady Gregory Hotel in Gort, we had just about enough time to get a few family shots before the meal was called. Have a few pics below, just click on any for a larger version.
