My last wedding of 2020 was such a great day. Held during Covid restrictions Derrick & Emma were a joy to work with. Not only did they look uber-cool, they didn’t mind the rain or trekking across the city for some great street shots as well as visiting a few hidden gems for a picture perfect afternoon. This day proved that small weddings can be such wonderful days, and also that my home city of Dublin can provide fab backdrops for photos if you know your way around. “We would like Christmas shots, some city shots and most importantly shots with Bonnie (their dog)” – a simple brief made the day a breeze. With the ceremony in the great City Hall we had easy access to a few hidden walks as well as a planned route up towards Stephens Green to take in the lights. Hopefully the shots below can give you an idea of the day and perhaps some inspiration if you are planning a small celebration. Enjoy 🙂

Due to the Covid pandemic Micro-Weddings have become par for the course these days. I thought I would share one from a few years ago. I met Ramtin for a quick nerve settling coffee on Westland Row and from there we headed up to Merrion Square where Niamh arrived for a first look. We then took a stroll through Merrion Square, headed up along the canal towards the registry office and, before the ceremony we did a few family shots by the canal locks. After the ceremony we had time for a few more shots of the happy couple before they met up again with their family for a meal, to be followed later by a party for friends. Only difference now is the social distancing required !!

Last October I had the privilege to shoot Mary and Lornas city centre wedding. This was a day so full of love, fun and those little touches to make the day truly unique. From the hand made table settings that Lorna made herself, to the open top cadillac ride through the centre of Dublin it was a blast of a day to document. We started the day in the Spencer Hotel, then we made our way up to the City Hall, one of my favourite wedding spots. After the ceremony and a few family photos we headed off to Merrion Square where the autumn colours made a beautiful backdrop for the stunning couple. We walked up towards the canal before heading back to Nolita for a few celebratory drinks, then we took another short walk along to Fallon & Byrne which had been beautifully decorated by the girls. Not only did I have a wonderful time in the company of fantastic people, but with all that walking around the city I also got my 10,000 steps in  – a win win !!!! Getting married in the autumn (fall) can be a fantastic time. Country lanes, city parks and even hotel grounds are awash with wonderful colours. These three shots were taken in three such locations, one outside a hotel lobby at night, the other along a pathway to a ruined abbey and the third one taken in a Dublin city park, a stones throw away from the hustle & bustle of the busy streets. Yes, there might be the possibility of rain, but with an Irish wedding you are going to have that possibility year round !!! Spent a lovely couple of hours with Chris & Phil as they officially tied the knot in Dublins Registry office at the end of July. The weather stared off a bit wet as we left Brooks Hotel, but the rain lifted as we reached Stephens Green and headed on through Merrion Square and on to the registry office. It was a simple, informal but a very meaningful celebration and the happiness was infectious. I left before lunch with a huge smile on my face. ready to take on the weekend !! I’m currently taking bookings for 2018 & have some availability remaining for 2017 so feel free to get in touch 🙂

Another wedding with a difference when I took a couple of hours out to photograph Niamh & Ramtins big day in the city recently. Not to be held up by traditions, Niamh walked to our meeting point (we did a first look before the ceremony) from her hotel, up along Merrion Square in the sun. A quick few pics in the grounds of the park and then we headed down to the registry office via the canal (and a few family photos). after the intimate ceremony we took to the roads again up towards Grand Canal Docks all in between some heavy showers, but the wind got the better of us so we wrapped up the photos bar a final cake shot in Patrick Guilbauds. Dublin really can be heaven sometimes 🙂
