Extended Coverage

reportage wedding photography

August 8, 2014 by Kevin Morris

Recently more & more couples have expressed an interest in extended coverage up to the first few dances as my coverage normally ends at the start of the reception meal.

Interest has been so great that I have decided to add extended coverage to my packages,

As an add-on, coverage to the first few dances is available at a cost of €275. This covers speeches, ad hoc photography and first dance

photos up to 10:30 pm or whatever occurs first. Please note that depending on location of reception, and if I happen to be shooting the

following day this coverage might not be available.

On each wedding day, I am all about giving the bride and groom, their guests and families, plenty of room to enjoy themselves rather than spending hours and hours on posing for photos. This would be what the vast majority of couples prefer, but, having said that, if I see a shot, I will have no problems asking the couple to take a little time out to capture it.

The shot below is from a recent wedding, I had seen the possibility during the ceremony, and although the B&G didn’t want much in the way of “posed” images, they were happy to trust me that it would be worth it. We literally took 2 minutes to capture this image, 2 minutes for something which will hopefully last a lifetime.

Whereas I love the documentary images, the unposed moments, the laughs etc. I also am a firm believer in taking the time on the day to capture a few “posed” photos. They don’t have to be the traditional shots, they don’t have to be stuffy & rigid, but they can deliver on the wow factor and, as the shot below proves, done & dusted in a matter of minutes.

8 years into this full time photography lark and I am still learning ! It might sound like a cliché, but every wedding IS different and each couple have their own ideas & personalities which hopefully come across in my images. With each wedding comes new challenges, sometime new venues, and even new friendships but one thing that hasn’t really changed is my photographic style. Mainly documentary, but with a few “informal” posed shots…and yes….I still do the family shots !
Watch out shortly for some new album selections, as well as regular updates & sneak peaks throughout the year. 2014 is nearly fully booked out with just a few select dates available in November & December.
See attached slideshow for a selection of images from 2013 (mainly !) – if you like my style feel free to give me a shout, or, if you know someone tying the knot who might be interested feel free to share. Hope you enjoy the show (watch in HD for best results & big thanks to the multi talented and all round good egg Corin Bishop for the soundtrack !).

Took a long drive up to Kilronan Castle to photograph the wedding of Ciara & David. Stunning venue, lovely couple and welcoming families & guests – throw in a couple of slightly mad bridesmaids, and Irelands victory in Paris to clinch the 6 nations and you had the recipe for a fabulous day all round. Hopefully, the small selection of images does the day justice.

Having gone through the details, and some bride & groom portraiture, it’s now time to have a look at those “moments”. Those moments that no-one notices, or that go in the blink of an eye, immortalized by a split second photograph.  Capturing your guests & family and their personalities, Sometimes thought provoking, perhaps romantic, occasionally cute,  but most of the time just plain funny, these are the type of images that I love.

I like to think that the main photos of the happy couple, their bridal party, families & friends are the cornerstones of wedding photography but the “moments” (or reportage images) are the mortar that holds them together, building up a full and detailed account of the day, not just in poses, but in atmosphere, in fun, in laughs…….in moments. These are the images that are not posed, but reflect the day in little glimpses.

Most of these images are from 2013, but I couldn’t help but add in a few all time favorites.

Hope you enjoy. (Just click on the play icon on the bottom right to start the show)

For my second blog of 2014 I thought I would shine some light on my views on wedding couple photography.  Most couples these days, while wanting top quality photos, wish to spend as much time as possible with their guests, so, before the day, I draft up a “plan” for timings and maybe locations if appropriate, and also a “wet weather” plan so, on the day the photos go as smoothly as possible with little or no time lost. Rather than overly pose couples, I prefer to keep my distance and, if applicable, incorporate as much of the landscape / hotel grounds into the images. I also move in close for maybe 2/3 photos but keep these to a minimum (unless specific requests have been made).

For most couples about 30 mins on the day is plenty for couple photography and I tend to split this up into 2 sessions – the first on location or in the hotel grounds and the second session just before the meal is called for . This always proves very popular with couples as it gives them a chance to catch their breath and spend some quiet time together.

See attached slideshow of a selection of couple shots from 2013 – just a small collection from various weddings throughout  the year .
