Lisa & Brian at The Cliff at Lyons

village at lyons weddings

April 17, 2017 by Kevin Morris

I love shooting at the Cliff at Lyons, so was really looking forward to the wedding of Lisa & Brian especially after having a chat over coffee on the build-up to the day and seeing that their wishes for the day matched perfectly with mine, relaxed informal photography, all while using the fab surroundings to create a few timeless images with the WOW factor. Turing up at Lisas parents house I was delighted to see that make-up was being done by the very talented Laura Kay and hair being looked after by the equally talented Leanne Nolan of Vow to Wow. Even the weather played ball making the day a real “If Carlsberg did weddings” day – it’s no wonder that a couple of my images from the day have got on to win awards at the IPPA Photographer of the Year competition. Hope you enjoy a small selection of shots from the day.

Sometimes you have a shot in mind for a wedding day, and hopefully everything falls into place. I had planned this one for the Cliff at Lyons for a while, but only at Lisa & Brians recent wedding did the elements come together to create a memorable image. Although I am always informal & laid back, I do like to take a few minutes at each wedding to try and create something special.

Sometimes you get spoiled shooting weddings, this was the case for Jessica & Gearoids big day at  the Village at Lyons. The weather forecast was poor, but it cleared up nicely, the venue, as I knew from previous visits, is one big fantastic photo op., and the couple, their family & friends were so friendly, relaxed & welcoming it all added up to the perfect storm for weddings. The day, although a long one, was so much fun to shoot. The couple both got ready at the venue, wonderful roomy houses by the lake, the ceremony was held in the stunning reception room with the noise from the waterfall in the background and then the drinks in the courtyard with what must be the only toilet trained Doves in Dublin. I only have a few images below, but hopefully they will give you an idea of the day. I’m currently taking bookings for 2018 & have some availability remaining for 2017 so feel free to get in touch 🙂

With the dark evenings upon us at the moment it provides an ideal chance for some low light wedding photography. Although weather dependent, the opportunities are there for shots with a difference and where a more artistic view can be brought to life. See below for a nice image from Maria & Davids recent wedding at the Village at Lyons. We popped out for a bit of air after the speeches and this one is probably my favourite 🙂

On each wedding day, I am all about giving the bride and groom, their guests and families, plenty of room to enjoy themselves rather than spending hours and hours on posing for photos. This would be what the vast majority of couples prefer, but, having said that, if I see a shot, I will have no problems asking the couple to take a little time out to capture it.

The shot below is from a recent wedding, I had seen the possibility during the ceremony, and although the B&G didn’t want much in the way of “posed” images, they were happy to trust me that it would be worth it. We literally took 2 minutes to capture this image, 2 minutes for something which will hopefully last a lifetime.

Whereas I love the documentary images, the unposed moments, the laughs etc. I also am a firm believer in taking the time on the day to capture a few “posed” photos. They don’t have to be the traditional shots, they don’t have to be stuffy & rigid, but they can deliver on the wow factor and, as the shot below proves, done & dusted in a matter of minutes.
