Anatomy of a photograph

bride and groom

May 9, 2018 by Kevin Morris

I pride myself on delivering relaxed and informal photography on your wedding day without any compromise on the final quality of the image, but, if a chance comes along for a shot, or I see something that I think would look fab I’m all over it. Luckily my planning in the run up to each wedding makes allowances for such circumstances. To illustrate the point I will explain the backstory behind the photo below as well as explain how we got there.

I had shot quite a few weddings in Seafield before and, when there were to be beach shots, we had gone down to the “public” beach at Ballymoney. This time was a little different however as Shauna & Davy had actually gotten engaged on the beach accessed through Seafield and their one “must have” shot was on this part of the strand so I wanted to make sure we got a standout shot to last a lifetime, but I also promised them we would be back at their guests by 4:15. Luckily a lot of things came together on the day. Firstly the main event manager at Seafield had volunteered to drive us there in a golf buggy, then Shaunas bridesmaid Orla hopped onto the back of the buggy to make sure all the bits & pieces were in place. Shauna helped big time by bringing along a pair of blinged up runners and of course we had a stunning day in terms of the weather. As soon as we arrived at the beach I saw the shot I wanted, but the spot was covered with kids enjoying the sun so we took a few other quick photos, once the little ones had moved on, Shauna scampered up the hill thanks to the runners and whereas a sunny day is often a pain for a photographer, the solid blue sky provided a stunning backdrop.

Within a minute I knew I had the shot I wanted, and with a couple of quick stops on the way back to the hotel it was 4:14 as we arrived at reception. Main job done, no stress, no fuss and everyone was so relaxed heading into the drinks reception all thanks to a little planning and a little help from lady luck !!

How would you fancy receiving a €50 discount off your wedding photography package ?
I’m delighted to introduce a new referral package for all those who have made their booking with me.
Simply refer me to a friend / couple who are getting married, and, if they also book me I will send you out a voucher to be used against your photography package, not only that, but your friends will also get the same discount, so it’s a win win !!
If you have already paid in full, or your wedding has passed, that’s no problem, the €50 can be used as a credit against a wedding album, or for a 10*8 matted print of your choice from your big day.
There is no limit on the number of referrals – the more the merrier !!!

Just make sure that your friends mention that they are a referral from you…..simple.

During the summer I had the pleasure of shooting Patria & Conors big day, from Bohola up to The Diamond Coast in Enniscrone with a quick stop in Belleek Castle Woods. This was a lot of firsts for me, first time I stopped in Bohola, first time in Belleek Castle Woods and first time in the Diamond Coast. The whole day was so laid back and fun, lots of smiles and laughs and so relaxed that the time flew by, but both Patria and Conor still had plenty of time to mingle with their friends and family. One of those days when everything fell nicely into place. I’m so glad they ordered an album, it’s one thing to look at your photos on a screen, but they really come to life in an album. Have a look at the photos and try not to smile along with everyone.

Am so happy yet again to be a finalist in this annual awards ceremony. This will be my third year in a row to be a finalist, but, as the standard is incredibly high this year I have zero expectations and am just delighted to be involved. Taken from the IPPVA website :

“The IPPVA awards differ from other awards in that they are solely judged by a panel of national and international professional photographers, both members and non members of the IPPVA, over 4 heats during the year. As such they recognise and reward technical and creative excellence, rather than being a popularity contest or public vote.

Awards are not easy to win, and winning even one is an achievement. Maintaining the consistency required to win four in the same year, in order to qualify as a finalist, is therefore quite special.”

See below for my wedding award winners (I also am a finalist in the landscape category 🙂 )

I had the pleasure of shooting Ella & Brians wedding in the stunning Castle Durrow last August. A fab venue, a lovely couple, a fun & relaxing day and
followed up by some great feedback….if Carlsbergs did weddings !!!!!

Hi Kevin,

Hope you’re keeping well.
I got our wedding photos a few weeks ago, thank you so much! The presentation box and USB stick are a great idea!!
The photos are amazing and we are so happy with them. We especially love the photo of us looking out the window ofthe Romanesque doorway in Killeshin and also some of the lovely Castle Durrow garden shots.
Thank you for doing such a great job with the photos and also making us feel so relaxed on the day!

Many Thanks,
Ella & Brian
