Roisin & Niall – Milltown and Castleknock

Reportage Photography

April 22, 2015 by Kevin Morris

I had met Roisin & Niall while shooting Roisins sisters wedding a couple of years ago so was delighted when they contacted me from Singapore for their own big day. We had stunning weather and I had trips down memory lane driving through Churchtown and the old grounds of St Annes Milltown. We dropped into the Phoenix Park for a few shots and then onto Castleknock Country Club Hotel where I got dragged into join in the meal – unexpected but appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚ As I left, the dancing was in full swing and the place was rocking. What a lovely way to spend a workday !

The end of February saw me packing my bags and heading down to Clare for Niamh & Pauls wedding. This was a wedding with a difference as the ceremony was not till 3pm so, we did the bridal party shots before the wedding, and before the wind & rain !! It was such a lovely & relaxed affair and made my job on the day an absolute joy ๐Ÿ™‚ย  –ย  check out the photos below for a small sample of the day….and what about Niamhs stunning shoes !!

I’m a sucker for silhouettes – so, when couples often ask me what we will do if it gets dark I never worry – albeit helped by a sunset, this type of image is achievable with minimum fuss. This was taken in Ballymagarvey Village, after sunset in late November and there was no set up apart from “face each other and kiss” !! ๐Ÿ™‚

A lot of the feedback I get from couples is that they were delighted with the informal and unposed photos of them mingling with their guests, the laughs, the quiet, intimate and sometimes funny moments that go unnoticed. I love these shots myself, and, whereas it’s always necessary to have the few family shots, and of course some nice bride & groom portraiture, it’s the unposed shots that build up and capture the atmosphere of the day and help to flesh out the “story”.

See below for a small selection of pics from last years weddings – this is not a top 50, nor a collection of my favourite shots (I’d need days to whittle them down !!) – just a representative sample of reportage photography – hope you enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

At my age birthdays are not greeted with anticipation, valentines are not forthcoming ๐Ÿ™ and, apart from junk mail, all that ever lands through my postbox are bills, bills, and more bills !! You can imagine my delight when I received a lovely card from Camilla & Dave whose wedding I shot last summer – yes, an actual card, with real writing etc…:)ย  –ย  I was however more excited when I read what was on the card.

“Kevin, thank you so much for the beautiful photos which you captured on the day of our wedding. We were absolutely thrilled with them. It was a pleasure to work with you on the day and we will treasure our photos always. We’ill be in touch in the future about an album. Camilla & David”

To be a wedding photographer you have to love your job, the days are soo exciting, all facets of human emotion are visible, and hopefully captured, but after the hustle & bustle of the day come the hours & hours of processing, tweaking, backups, designing etc., all done in a solitary capacity, followed by the nervous anticipation when you send out the images. So, when a couple take time out of their busy lives to say thanks it’s a thrill and it helps to keep your head in the game.

Not that I had much trouble at Camilla & Daves wedding, a glorious sunny day, a lovely couple (whom I had met at previous weddings), familiar faces within the guests, the fab surroundings of Moyvalley & Balyna House….and to top it off, an ice cream van !!

I had a great day in the Stephouse shooting Elaine & Barrys wedding in late 2014. If ever there was proof that people make the wedding this was it…..despite constant rain, everyone still had a blast in the fab surroundings of the Stephouse. Great laughs all day, an epic photobomb (image number 45 !!) and a selection of cakes to die for ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully the pics below will give you an idea of the day, and I was delighted to receive a lovely email from the couple :

Hi Kevin

We’ve settled back into normal everyday life after the honeymoon and a big house move. We were so excited to go through the wedding photographs when we got back!

We are just so happy with them all โ€“ you captured our day perfectly. Iโ€™m in love with the candid, fly on the wall style โ€“ itโ€™s great to see everyone enjoying themselves! And the posed shots even look natural!
They are exactly what we wanted, itโ€™s going to be a hard job figuring out what to use for our album.
It was so special to be able to relive the day through the photoโ€™s, especially to see my grandad as he passed away recently.

Thank you again, you were so easy to deal with and would highly recommend you to anyone!
All the best
Elaine & Barry
